60 Jahre und kein bisschen leise – Superbox zum Jubiläum
Impulse! feiert Geburtstag und schenkt sich und seinen Fans eine Box, die einmal mehr die Bedeutung des berühmten Labels demonstriert.

Seit sechzig Jahren steht Impulse! Records für musikalische Integrität und bleibenden musikalischen Wert, hat klassische Aufnahmen hervorgebracht, die die politischen und kulturellen Veränderungen der Welt widerspiegeln. Obwohl das Label, 1961 als Teil von ABC Records gegründet, anfänglich auf alle damals bedeutenden Jazzstile setzte, konzentrierte es sich nach den großen Veröffentlichungen seines Künstlers John Coltrane vor allen Dingen auf Musik mit experimenteller und spiritueller Dimension. Bahnbrechende Alben von Max Roach‚ Alice Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Albert Ayler, Sun Ra und Pharoah Sanders sind die Werke, die bis heute das Bild von Impulse! prägen.
Ein wesentlicher Teil der Identität des Labels beruht auch auf seinem ins Auge stechenden Logo und den ikonischen Albumcovers. Die Farben Orange und Schwarz werden für immer optisches Signet des Labels bleiben, das auch heute noch ein Zuhause für kreative und mutige Musiker aus der ganzen Welt ist. Zuletzt hat Impulse! Records die hochgelobte Musik des in Großbritannien ansässigen Saxofonisten Shabaka Hutchings und seiner Ensembles Sons of Kemet, The Comet is Coming und Shabaka & The Ancestors herausgebracht.
Natürlich wirft Impulse! zum Jubiläum auch einen Blick auf seinen noch immer relevanten Katalog. Dafür hat man sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, aus dem großen Schatz bedeutender Aufnahmen ein 4-LP- bzw. 2-CD-Set zu koppeln. “Impulse Records: Music, Message and the Moment" ist eine Zusammenstellung exemplarischer Aufnahmen, Klassiker und seltener Tracks. Vor allen Dingen das LP-Set ist durch seine opulente Ausstattung (Box mit ausgestanztem Klappdeckel, 4 LPs in zwei Gatefold-Sleeves, 24-seitiges Booklet in braunem Paperbag, LP-Slipmat mit Impulse-Logo) ein Traum für Fans. LP- und CD-Set wurden von den analogen Bändern remastert und enthalten ausführliche Linernotes der Autoren A.B. Spellman und Greg Tate.
